Another benefit of being a journalist

One of the perks of being a reporter is meeting people that "civilians" wouldn't normally get a chance to see.

In June, I had another one of those journalistic "brushes with greatness."

Actor and Louisville native William Mapother, who was billed as a star of one my favorite TV shows Lost, was the special guest speaker at a rally on the Capitol steps on behalf of the issues directed at the elderly.

Louisville artist donates $2.5 million to Kosair Charities

Artist Mickey Hackett, widow of longtime Associated Press writer and editor George Hackett, has donated $2.5 million to Kosair Charities to be used for children’s medical care and medical research.

The Art of Effective Confrontation

You don’t need to see yourself as being “on a team” to benefit from The Five Dysfunctions of a Team, a fantastic best-selling fable penned by Patrick Lencioni. If you want to improve how you interact with others, and how they interact with you, I highly recommend this book.

Written in crisp, compelling style, and culled from his real-life experiences as a business consultant, The Five Dysfunctions is one of those page-turners aided and abetted by chapters sometimes briefer than a James Joyce run-on sentence.

THE UN-COMFORT ZONE with Robert Wilson
What's Pushing Your Buttons?

What motivates you? That's the question I'd like to ask in this inaugural column on motivation. Are you motivated by fame, fortune or fear. Or is it something deeper that fans the flames inside of you. Perhaps you are like Jeanne Louise Calment whose burning desire enabled her to do something that no other human being has done before.

A feat so spectacular that it generated headlines around the globe, got her a role in a motion picture, and landed her in the Guinness Book of World Records. A record that has yet to be beaten.
