The U.S. Small Business Administration recently selected Daily News business reporter Ameerah Cetawayo as SBA Kentucky Small Business Journalist of the Year 2008.

Cetawayo, a Louisville native, is also a fill-in anchor for WKCT-AM, which is owned by the Daily News of Bowling Green.

A WKU alumna with a bachelor’s degree in mass communication and minors in Asian studies and broadcasting, she is a member of the National Association of Journalists.

Vicki Stevens, city editor at the Advocate-Messenger in Danville, has been named assistant managing editor.

Stevens has 29 years with the newspaper and served as a beat reporter, primarily covering Lincoln and Garrard counties. She worked as a copy editor before being promoted to city editor seven years ago.

Stevens is responsible for supervising the newsroom staff, assigning stories and planning news content in addition to editing.

A native of Lincoln County, Stevens earned a bachelor’s degree in English and journalism from Campbellsville University.

Michelle McGuffin was named manager of the Kentucky Classified Network and classified advertising at The News-Enterprise in Elizabethtown, effective July 16 by Chris Ordway, publisher. The News-Enterprise, owned by Landmark Community Newspapers of Shelbyville, is a six-day daily newspaper with a circulation of 17,000.

Michael Womack has been appointed vice president of circulation for the Kentucky Enquirer, Margaret E. Buchanan, president and publisher of the Enquirer, announced recently.

Womack is a 32-year veteran of newspapers and formerly served with the Arizona Republic.

His first day was April 14.

The new sports writer for the Messenger in Madisonville eats, breathes and sleeps sports.

Forrest Rutherford, 26, grew up in Versailles and counts the University of Kentucky and the Minnesota Vikings as his favorite teams.

He found his career path after taking a sports writing class taught by Chip Cosby of the Lexington Herald-Leader. Rutherford is a graduate of UK.

He is a former sports editor for the Woodford Sun.

Lloyd Smith has accepted a staff writer position with the LaRue County Herald News.

Smith is a Lexington native, a graduate of Paul Laurence Dunbar High School and attended Lee University.

He and his wife, Katie, serve as student pastors at Family Worship Center Church of God in Hodgenville.

Laura Hagan has been named editor of The News-Herald.

The News-Herald is a weekly newspaper in Owenton with a circulation of 3,112.

Hagan has served as staff writer for the newspaper since September 2006.

She is a journalism graduate of Western Kentucky University.

The Paintsville Herald announces its new sports editor.

Tim Pelphrey, 37, has six years sports writing experience and said he is eager to take on the new position.

Publisher Paula Halm said she believes Pelphrey’s addition to the Herald will improve the quality of the paper.

Pelphrey resides in Oil Springs with his wife, Nancy, and their two children, Brooks, 14, and Savannah, 13.
