Welcome Aboard

The Kentucky Press Association would like to welcome its newest officers who officially took their place during the winter convention.

Kriss Johnson, the educational outreach coordinator coordinator for the Lexington Herald-Leader, was presented with the ceremonial gavel during the annual KPA Convention as she begins her term as president of the Kentucky Press Association.

With her term, Johnson becomes the eighth woman to serve as president in the 138-year history of the KPA.

Johnson’s predecessor, Alice Rouse, publisher of the Murray Ledger & Times, will continue to serve the Kentucky newspaper community as past president.

After serving as vice president last year, Taylor Hayes, publisher of the Kentucky New Era, was elected as president elect. He will assume the role of KPA president next year.

Edmund Shelby, the editor of The Beattyville Enterprise, has assumed his duties as vice president after serving as treasurer last year.

Long-time KPA board member Chip Hutcheson, the publisher of the Princeton Times Leader, will serve as treasurer.

This year, three new faces will serve as KPA board members.

Sandra Stone, Newspapers in Education coordinator for the Meade County Messenger, has been elected to the board as a state at-large member.

Cheryle Walton, the advertising director for the Beattyville Enterprise, will represent KPA’s District 10.

Pat Moynahan will represent the journalism education professional for KPA. Moynahan is the vice provostat at Northern Kentucky University.

KPA is the nation's 10th oldest state press association.
