OCTOBER MID MONTH UPDATE 2006 ARTICLES Film Revealing Insurgency in Iraq to Be Screened at UK; Photojournalist Molly Bingham will attend screening "Meeting Resistance", a non-fiction, feature-length film set in the streets of Baghdad, Iraq, will be shown on the University of Kentucky campus on Monday, Oct. 30. The screening will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the Worsham Theater, UK Student Center. "Meeting Resistance" enters the physical and psychological heart of the "insurgency" against the American occupation. Photojournalists and directors Steve Connors and Molly Bingham spent 10 months among the insurgents in Iraq to create this insightful, and at once horrifying, film about their lives.
Eighty-five Kentucky newspapers are participating in the 2006 KPA Chapter Series, Tails from the Bluegrass II. And from the sounds of e-mails Woody and his sister Chloe are receiving, students, teachers and other newspaper readers are enjoying this 10-week series. Deadline to return the form to KPA/KPS is November 10. The information requested is used in the 2007 KPA Directory of Kentucky newspapers and also kept on file by the KPS ad staff to use in preparing ad proposals for advertisers and ad agencies.
What is in the best interest of full disclosure? As a reporter, we usually know quite a bit about a politician or public figure before we start interviewing them. Political leanings, voting records and past interviews can offer us a lot of insight into who we are talking to. But for the subjects, they usually come in blind.
There are a few software applications that are essential for people who design and print pages for a living. Adobe Acrobat and Photoshop would fit into this category. So would page layout programs such as QuarkXPress or InDesign. With its latest upgrade, I’ve added another title to my list of essentials. Enfocus PitStop has been around for some time. I can’t remember the first time I tested a version of this Acrobat plug-in, but I remember it was several years back. Now up to version 7.0, PitStop has come a long way since it was first introduced to layout and printing professionals.
