International Newspaper Carrier Day ads available on NAA Web site Vienna, Va. The Newspaper Association of America and the newspaper industry has designated Oct. 7 as International Newspaper Carrier Day, a salute to the hundreds of thousands of newspaper carriers who deliver more than 55 million newspapers to readers every day. To commemorate Carrier Day, NAA has created new ads recognizing their vital contribution to the industry. The ads can be downloaded from NAA’s Web site at http://www.naa.org/CirculationPages/Newspaper-Carriers/International-Newspaper-Carrier-Day-Oct-7-2005.aspx “Newspaper carriers come from all walks of life, but they share common traits of hard work, service and dedication to the industry and their communities,” said NAA President and CEO John F. Sturm. “We are pleased to set aside this special day to show our appreciation for this essential service to the industry.” This year’s ads take a page from David Letterman in the form of a “Top 10 Reasons to Celebrate International Carrier Day.” These range from the obvious—“Reading that cereal box in the morning gets awfully dull by the third day”—to the observant—“They bring the world to your home, each and every day, rain or shine.” International Newspaper Carrier Day is held in conjunction with National Newspaper Week, Oct. 1-7, which is sponsored separately by the Newspaper Association Managers. National Newspaper Week materials are available electronically to newspapers through the Kentucky Press Association Web site: http://www.kypress.com/nnwkit. A number of former newspaper carriers have achieved national prominence in business, entertainment, politics and the press. John Wayne, Warren Buffet and Martin Luther King, Jr. are among the former carriers who are now part of the Newspaper Carrier Hall of Fame, which began in 1960 by the International Circulation Managers Association and now carried on by NAA’s Circulation Federation. For a full list of Hall of Fame members, go to http://www.naa.org/CirculationPages/Newspaper-Carriers/Scott-Joins-NAA-Newspaper-Carrier-Hall-of-Fame.aspx. |
