Postal Summit

Top U.S. postal officials, including the postmaster general, heard plenty from community newspaper executives about their frustrations with delivery problems and a proposed double-digit rate hike during a meeting in Washington, D.C., last week.

National Newspaper Association President Jerry Reppert called for the one-day “postal summit,” which drew with more than 50 publishers, state press association executives and NNA leaders.

Herald-Leader, KPA win NNA NIE Awards

The Lexington Herald-Leader and the Kentucky Press Association have been named 2006 Award Winners in the National Newspaper Association's Newspaper in Education contest.

The Herald-Leader won two General Excellence awards for Daily Newspapers and the Kentucky Press Association received a third place aware for State Programs for its Tails from the Bluegrass chapter series.

Herald News, Times Leader win NNA BNC Awards

The LaRue County Herald News and the Princeton Times Leader have both won two awards in the National Newspaper Association's Better Newspaper Contest.

The LaRue County Herald News received a first place for Best Humorous Column and an honorable mention for Best Newspaper Promotion. Linda Ireland won the first place in Best Humorous Column and the Best Newspaper Promotion honorable mention went to Circulation Manager Ramona Coffey with the assistance of Charlotte Isbell.

Making Photos Larger ... It Can Be Done

Clothing fashions aren’t the only styles that have gone retro. Lately, I’ve noticed it’s become fashionable to offer Photoshop training for newspapers again.

A couple of years ago I discussed the upswing in software training, since the advent of Adobe InDesign, with a friend who was also in the training business. We agreed on a couple of points. First, it seemed like everyone wanted training in InDesign. Second, getting folks to come out for Photoshop training was like pulling teeth.
