I remember a survey in the 1980s that said the three most famous persons in the world at that time were Mao Tse-tung, Col. Harland Sanders and Muhammad Ali.

As a reporter for The Courier-Journal, I had by that time interviewed two of the three. (Mao never made it to Louisville.)
